Farewell to SummerThere is a mathematical reason why each summer feels shorter than the last one, but that doesn’t help me feel better about it. What a summer it has been! If you didn’t hear it in person at the closing meeting or by watching the livestream, there is a link to the list at the bottom. A giant THANK YOU to everyone who lent a hand a some way to make this season at Chatham Yacht Club work! It has been great to see the club active with both our new members and those that have been around the buoys a few times. Each season is unique in its own way and this season was no different. Some parts come and go easily and others are a tough beat upwind. What doesn’t change is how great it is to to feel the sun and wind while being on our bay or being able to celebrate a race or season in life with a friend while standing on our deck. At our house, kids (and teachers) are getting ready for school, we are preparing for our final “summer guests” and trying to figure out how all of the fall sports practices and games are supposed to fit in our calendar while missing our oldest child who is now off to college. This all said, the flag officers are already keenly focused on next season! We are sorting through the sailing school progress reports, forecasting budgets and working on our off season project list. We have received messages already on where we succeeded and where we need to improve next season and appreciate them all. (Be on the lookout for our seasonal survey. Your input counts!) I hope that you and your family each came away from this season with wonderful memories of CYC whether from Sailing School, one of our amazing Social Events, a Regatta or just looking out onto the bay from the deck. SEASON AWARDS PRESENTATION & CLOSING MEETING - 
STAFF APPRECIATION FUNDADULT SAILING The CYC Monday Adult Sailing class ended its 2026 season on a high note, with a lovely gathering at the Chatham home of Jen & Mike Gilmartin. Thank you! All agreed that it was a great class this season, led by the talented teacher, Gwen Shipley. Gwen’s extraordinary leadership was recognized at the gathering. She was presented with a lovely, seashore themed pottery platter. Pictured are some of CYC newest sailors and instructors with Gwen displaying her gift. Congratulations! Thank you to all involved and see you in 2027!

TELESMANICK BEETLE CAT REGATTA COMING TO CYC IN 2027! We are excited to announce that Chatham Yacht Club will host the prestigious Telesmanick Beetle Cat Regatta once again in 2027! The dates will be July 31st /August 1st, and planning has already begun. Many of you will remember that CYC hosted the 100th Beetle Cat anniversary in 2021, with over 70 Beetle Cats on the starting line! Cathy Taylor and Ted Dickson will co-chair the event and will be seeking volunteers to assist both on the water and off – a two day event! The goal is to get 30 Beetle Cats to sail in the event in 2027! Beetle Cat owners and NEBCBA (New England Beetle Cat Boat Association) members are excited to return to Pleasant Bay in their classic wooden boats next summer. Mark your calendars! - Cathy Taylor WHAT IS THE TELESMANICK AND WHY IS IT NAMED THAT? Leo J. Telesmanick was a master boat builder locally who began his apprenticeship under John Beetle at the age of 15. In 1936, he became foreman of Beetle production. When Concordia purchased Beetle's rights in 1946, Mr. Telesmanick became head of the Beetle Cat Division. He was one of the last surviving builders of the Beetle whaleboats and built landing ships during World War II for Palmer Scott. He was widely known in yatching circles for his sailing expertise and the New England Beetle Cat Association hosts the Leo J. Telesmanick Championship Race annually. RESTROOMSThe bathrooms remain accessible until it is deemed too cold to sail. Please note the code to the lock is 1921 BOAT STORAGE?Please contact Bart if you hope to store for the winter on the property. Any boat or equipment on the waterfront area must have the member's name on it. (As it is in the membership directory…) Any items remaining around CYC without a name is considered abandoned and will become CYC property. |

| PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF ANY WEATHER EVENTSAny boats in the mooring field should be checked before and after a weather event - regardless if this is during the open CYC season or after the clubhouse is closed. If you have a boat in the mooring field, please ensure your membership profile contains accurate information (boat name, your contact details etc.) in the case we need to reach you and notify of a boat situation. |
| CLUB HOUSE CLOSING AND CLEAN UPTHANK YOU to all of our volunteers who helped to clean and close our clubhouse and grounds. It's no easy task but this year went very smoothly and we finished in record time! CYC would not be able to open or close without your elbow grease, we are GRATEFUL. See you next June when it's time to do it in reverse! NOTE: The bathrooms remain accessible until it is deemed too cold to sail. Please note the code to the new lock is 1921 |
