PATROL

If CYC runs on volunteers, then our racing runs on the patrol committee!

If you have a motor boat, or have experience driving a power boat, or are willing to accompany a boat on patrol,

then we have an opportunity for YOU!

CYC has a tradition of the CYC has a tradition of powerboat patrol which keep our sailors safe while racing, and we thank those who volunteer year after year.

If your child or children race in the CYC races on a regular or semi-regular basis, we need you to please volunteer a few times this summer to serve as the driver of or a passenger on a patrol boat.  It doesn’t matter if you have a boat or not, as we have the CYC powerboats for use, and it doesn’t matter if you’re comfortable on a boat or not, as we can teach you.  In addition to helping to keep our kids safe, serving on a patrol boat is a great way to see your kids sail up-close.

To assure you, patrolling is straightforward and does not require experience.  Quite simply, we need to make sure all the boats that go out for a race return to shore.  If you have any questions or concerns about patrolling, please contact Mike Szymanski at any time (cell: 201-320-3270 or e-mail: mfszy1@gmail.com) or Andrew Caggiano  (cell: 781-690-4711 or e-mail: andycagg@gmail.com)

Weekly Race Schedule

The CYC race schedule this summer will be the same as last summer with Series races on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday and Sailing School races on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tuesdays: Two races will be held with the first starting at 1:00pm. The races will count towards two separate Series. For the first time, we will have a separate start during both Series for participants in the Adult Sailing program.

Wednesday: Sailing School races start at 12:30pm. One Junior race will then begin at 2:00pm.

Thursday: Sailing School races will begin at 12:30pm.

Saturday: All classes will continue to have two races on Saturdays that will count towards a single Series for each class. As a reminder, there will only be one race on Saturday July 1 and Saturday August 19 in advance of the Opening and Closing Meetings, respectively.

Reach out to us anytime with questions or concerns. We look forward to a great 2025 season for Chatham Yacht Club!

Courtesy and Safety on the Golf Course

An average golf ball leaves the tee traveling 115 mph or more, and our path to CYC takes us right in front of the first tee. Adults and children need to take care as they cross in front.  Eastward Ho! has provided a fence to protect us.  CYC members should stop at the edge of the fence, look and assess the situation.  Always wait while golfers are teeing off, but if the golfers are waiting, they may signal it is safe to cross. Be aware as you approach the ninth green as well, since it is just beyond our path.

Eastward Ho! and CYC have a great working relationship, but it depends on CYC members being courteous to and respectful of the golfers.  Please wear shirts and shoes when crossing the hill, and do not use your cell phone.  It is best to be quiet when golfers are on the 9th green.  You may stop and wait, or move quietly by, but try not to distract those focusing on their putts.
