Not one of these events would be possible without the generosity of our members and amazing volunteers who dedicate their time, energy and finances to ensure we put on the best possible events for others and those within our own community. We extend a heartfelt thank you! Your hard work and commitment did not go unnoticed. The GILL trophy allowed CYC to play host to ten other clubs for this year's all female regatta. There were miles of smiles as well as the usual Chatham variety of weather systems. Thank you to Nikki Bartlett, Jenna Benson, Alicia Downs, Melissa Hubbell, Deb Maclean, Allison Nadeau, Barb Shipley, Gwen Shipley, Karen Taylor who assisted with parking logistics and meal preparations. Thank you to our FLAG OFFICERS, Bart Wesp, Gwen Shipley and Emily Richmond for layering on an additional regatta to an outsize list of responsibilities this week and Bonnie Rosenthall for lending "Bandit" as a Race Committee vessel. Natalie Coleman-Fuller served as a judges boat and Ted Dickson piloting the mark boat. Thank you!! All CYC GILL sailors did well with Brooke Bartlett /Jessica Scipione securing a podium finish, with the help of great on water coaching by Sophie Dart and Alex Wesp. (For a full recap and results, please see last week's spinsheet.) The weather began on Wednesday with high winds and Thursday's downpour added to the wind creating a lake under our dinner tent, throwing the preparations for the regatta dinner into high stress territory. We should know to never fear! Jenn Gilmartin and her team once again pulled of the extraordinary feat of making it look effortless. Despite the harrowing start, we were once again fortunate enough to enjoy a beautiful Regatta dinner, followed by a spectacularly beautiful Saturday and Sunday with sunshine and breezy conditions.

This year also ended an era with David Spring retiring from painting after producing 25 years of paintings for the CYC Regatta and several Telesmanick Regattas. However, Paul Lamoreux has been working with the Spring family to continue the tradition of unique, original art awards. Paul took a photograph from last year's regatta and turned it into a David Spring watercolor-style print. The Spring family continued to provide the copying, frames and framing for the prints. TROPHY ENGRAVING & RETURN
| As you are dropping off or picking up your students, please take a look at the LOST & FOUND bins. They are full of many items that have been left behind and would like to find their owners! CHARACTER DAYOnce again character day proved to be a highlight of the sailing school season this week. Sailing school had fun celebrating pirate/character day on Thursday and Friday. There was a costume contest and fun had by all.
Work Hard, Be Kind: Award Winners This award honors the memory of John W. Hughan, a beloved member of our club known for his caring spirit and for always going above and beyond for others. It is presented to sailors who demonstrate exceptional kindness, respect, and perseverance. This week's winner: This week's winner is Sawyer Hemingway. Sawyer has a great attitude and encourages his fellow sailors. He regularly stays to help instructors stack chairs and helps launch 420s during races. |

| The Corinthian spirit refers to a code of ethics, camaraderie, and fair play in sailing. As part of the Chatham regatta, there are several sportsmanship recognitions awarded to participants displaying these remarkable traits. Annie Benson Sportsmanship Award: Jane Richmond & Charlotte Caggiano The 2026 Annie Benson Inner Line Sportsmanship Award was presented to Jane Richmond and Charlotte Caggiano. As the wind strengthened on Sunday, several Optis capsized and struggled to recover and bail out. Throughout the day, Jane and Charlotte were quick to lend a hand wherever they could—even in the middle of their own races. Their willingness to help fellow sailors, combined with their positive attitude and good spirits despite the challenging conditions, made them truly deserving recipients of this year's award. Dickson Sportsmanship Award: Luciano Boglione & Lily Kern (Namequoit) There were several sailors on the 420 line that stood out to the Race Committee for their display of the Corinthian spirit, both on and off the water. Only one boat, though, was actually nominated by another. As one boat came in to finish, they asked: "Can we nominate someone for the Sportsmanship Award?" They had capsized by the leeward mark and, upon righting themselves, had so much water in the boat that they were practically sinking. Another boat offered the use of their pump while sailing by, which made it so the first boat was able to finish the course under the time limit. For this reason, we are awarding the Dickson Sportsmanship Award to Luciano Boglione and Lily Kern, of Namequoit Sailing Association - who loaned their pump. Sheldrick Sportsmanship Award: Warren Richmond & Sawyer Hemingway (Honorable Mentions: Gigi Proia & Kinney Benson) Gigi and Kinney were retiring for the day when, on their way back to shore, they rescued a capsized Sunfish, with Gigi even helping to sail the other Sunfish to shore. Warren and Sawyer actually stopped racing and turned around to help an older Sunfish sailor right his boat in the middle of a race, with no regard for their own place or finish – they were only concerned with the safety of the other sailor. Spring Sportsmanship Award: Kennedy Brown, Charlotte Waldo, Brooke Bartlett, and Richie, Wilder, and Lennox Dart The 2026 Classic Line Spring Sportsmanship Award was presented to the most cheerful crew on our line: Brooke Bartlett, Kennedy Brown, Lennox, Richie and Wilder Dart, and Charlotte Waldo. From the very beginning, they greeted us with a cheerful "hello," always said "thank you," and never missed an opportunity to smile and wave. They were the youngest group on our line and competed in all nine races which is a testament to their perseverance, enthusiasm, and positive spirit. It was that combination of determination and joy that made them our choice for this year's Spring Sportsmanship Award. |
| A Celebration of Life for Roslyn Bayha Coleman will be held on 3 PM Saturday, August 15th at the United Methodist Church, 569 Main Street, Chatham. A reception will be held following the ceremony at the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center, 847 Orleans Road, Chatham. Carpooling is encouraged due to limited parking. | The season is not over!We are still in need of volunteers for patrol and the dock committee during races. Signing up is easy. Simply visit the VOLUNTEER CALENDAR and select the event on the date of your choice. This will take you to an event 'registration' page where you can learn more about the shift or needs. Once you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email as well as reminder emails as your shift date nears. (Parent-On-Duty sailing school parents, secure your favored spot now!) |

GETTING YOUR BOAT TO OR FROM CYC: |
|
No boats or sailboards may be carried over the hill to be launched at CYC. Launching may take place at Jack Knife Harbor, the Town Landing on Crow's Pond, Ryder's Cove or in Round Cove. Please pay attention to any permitting needs for launching any boat. Transportation of 420s and Optis over the hill for the purpose of attending regattas during the summer may occur ONLY before sunrise and after sunset per our lease with Eastward Ho! This includes wheeling on a dolly. (If you have purchased an Opti for your sailor and are depositing or removing your Opti for the season, these same Eastward Ho! requirements apply.) Thank you in advance for your cooperation! |
CYC Parking
The parking lot configuration allows for multi-directional Fox Hill Road access from three points as illustrated in the diagram below. It is essential that all CYC traffic use the third entrance on Fox Hill road to minimize the access traffic and pedestrian hazards in the other parts of the parking area.
Sailing School morning classes
CYC instructors will be available to help students to and from the CYC club house so parents can enjoy the convenience of “drop and go” noted by the yellow cross-hash area.
Before 11:30 am, parking may be available on a 
first-come, first-serve basis in the designated area, highlighted in green box, for parents to bring their children to classes, meet the instructors and fellow parents. Please be aware this area is not exclusive to CYC but shared with EHCC. If there is a shortage of parking spaces in the designated area, please park on the shoulder of Fox Hill Rd.
“Pickup and go” will also be available for your convenience at the conclusion of morning classes at the Pick-up spot shown in the diagram. This is a safer and shaded location where our students can be ready for pick-up. Please be mindful of cars who need to get around you while you are waiting.
Mid-day
Parking begins to get busy around 11:30 when Eastward Ho! Lunch service begins. After 11:30, We ask that CYC members park on the Fox Hill road shoulder during lunch if the CYC area is busy.
Afternoon classes and races
Due to the limited amount of parking spaces, Parents are encouraged to enjoy the convenience of “drop and go” where appropriate for the children. Parents who would like to see your kids in action during the afternoon races can check for available parking spots in the designated (green) area after 2 PM. If there is a shortage of parking spaces at any time, please park on the shoulder of Fox Hill Rd.
Eastward Ho! will have parking lot attendants available to assist with traffic flow and direct CYC members to the designated (green) area. Please don’t hesitate to speak with them if you have any questions or need assistance.
As always, safety is paramount as we balance convenience and consideration for a shared parking resource with our friends at Eastward Ho!

Trophy Engraving & Return
Try CCI Engraving at 474 Station Ave, South Yarmouth - take old Exit 8 and go South - it will be in a shopping area on the left (across the parking lot from Marathon Sports). Their phone number is 508-398-4433. There is a one-time set-up charge of $25 for each trophy, but once it is in his system the same trophy can be engraved each year without that additional charge. - Thank you! |
