Spinsheet -July 1, 2022

	CYC OPENING MEETING* - Saturday, July 2nd   Following the races   Approx 3:00 *please watch for a separate email re the opening meeting with zoom options for those who are unable to attend in person.  Off to the CYC Races! Saturday, July 2 - 1:00pm:A single Series race followed by CYC Opening Meeting. Please note that all classes will start sequentially after 1:00pm with no second later start time. Monday,  July 4 2:00pm: CYC July 4 Race. Please note that all classes will start sequentially after 2:00pm due to the Chatham Independence Day Parade in the morning. This will be a trophy race and not count toward a Series.
	JOIN US IN THE PARADE ON Monday, July 4th Decorate:  Decorating for the parade will take place DURING THE OPENING MEETING on Saturday, July 2nd  after the races or approximately 3pm.  Decorating will take place in the basement if there is inclement weather.   Meet at the CYC float on Shore Road (towards the back, we are float #49 of 72 in line) BY 8:30 am if not earlier.  (Parade begins at 9:30 - See below with traffic guidance) We will be in position by 8am for any early birds.   Wear your Sailing School T-Shirt!  And comfortable walking shoes. Bring: Water bottle and anything needed for the weather.  Pick up : Monomoy Regional Middle School on Crowell Road*  All kids 8 and under need to be accompanied by an adult to walk in the parade.   All members, young and not so young, are invited to walk with us.  Come celebrate the centennial!  The parade route ends at Crowell Road and Tip Cart Road - if your child is unaccompanied and not picked up at the end of the parade, then they will proceed to the Middle School.  Parking & Shuttle: For entrants wishing to park at the Monomoy Regional Middle School, a shuttle bus will take you to Shore Road. This shuttle will run starting at 7am. The shuttle will run from the end of the parade back to the Monomoy Regional Middle School. Please adhere to police instructions for entering & exiting the parade area.  Shore road closes at 6:30am and main street to shore road closes at 8:30.
	CYC Independence Day Strawberry Shortcake Social  Please join us on Monday,  July 4 following the CYC July 4th race for our Strawberry Shortcake Social. (Race begins at 2:00pm)  Note, we still need a bit of help for this event.  Please check out the link if you can be of help.  Thank you!  Volunteer to Help
	Eastward Ho! is fully subscribed for their annual July 4th celebration. Only members with a confirmed reservation may park in the parking lot. If you wish to watch the fireworks from the CYC beach, you may walk over the hill but must park along the street or elsewhere. The Chatham police will be onsite to help with any parking questions. • Please do not park in areas on Fox Hill Road that have been roped off by our Greens Department or the Police for safety reasons. It is a very busy night!  There is no CYC parking available after 4:30 pm on July 4th.

SAILING SCHOOL

What a great first week!  We look forward to seeing everyone in the parade and along the parade route.

Getting your boat to CYC:

No boats or sailboards may be carried over the hill to be launched at CYC. Launching may take place at Jack Knife Harbor, the Town Landing on Crow's Pond, Ryder's Cove or in Round Cove. (Please see the email of 6/14 detailing the NEW permit requirements for use of Round Cove)

Transportation of 420s and Optis over the hill for the purpose of attending regattas during the summer may occur ONLY before sunrise and after sunset per our lease with Eastward Ho!

CYC Parking

The new parking lot configuration allows for multi-directional Fox Hill Road access from three points as illustrated in the diagram below. It is essential that all CYC traffic use the third entrance on Fox Hill road to minimize the access traffic and pedestrian hazards in the other parts of the parking area.

The added parking has improved parking but we, EHCC and CYC, need to continue to optimize on the available parking with the following actions;

Sailing School morning classes

CYC instructors will be available to help students to and from the CYC club house so parents can enjoy the convenience of “drop and go” noted by the yellow cross-hash area. Before 11:30 am, parking maybe available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the designated area, highlighted in green box, for parents to bring their children to classes, meet the instructors and fellow parents. Please be aware this area is not exclusive to CYC but shared with EHCC. If there is a shortage of parking spaces in the designated area, please park on the shoulder of Fox Hill Rd. “Pickup and go” will also be available for your convenience at the conclusion of morning classes at the Pick-up spot shown in the diagram. This is a safer and shaded location where our students can be ready for pick-up.

Mid-day

Parking begins to get busy around 11:30 when Eastward Ho! Lunch service begins. After 11:30, We ask that CYC members park on the Fox Hill road shoulder during lunch if the north lot is busy.

Afternoon classes and races

Due to the limited amount of parking spaces, Parents are encouraged to enjoy the convenience of “drop and go” where appropriate for the children. Parents who would like to see your kids in action during the afternoon races can check for available parking spots in the designated (green) area after 2 PM. If there is a shortage of parking spaces at any time, please park on the shoulder of Fox Hill Rd.

Eastward Ho! will have parking lot attendants available to assist with traffic flow and direct CYC members to the designated (green) area. Please don’t hesitate to speak with them if you have any questions or need assistance.

As always, safety is paramount as we balance convenience and consideration for a shared parking resource with our friends at Eastward Ho!

CYC ONLY FUNCTIONS WITH YOUR HELPING HANDS!

We need your help.

In order to keep children safe, the costs affordable as well as maintain the community culture of Chatham Yacht Club, CYC relies on ALL members to volunteer in order to get everything done. This also a great way to get to know old and new CYC members.

Thank you to those who have volunteered this season already! 

Members with sailing school participants should sign up for at least one slot  per child (race day or social or house and grounds volunteer) per child enrolled in Sailing School and at least one Regatta donation per child in Sailing School.

Members with our Sailing School participants should sign up for at least two volunteers slots and at least one item for the Regatta.
