Once students reach the age of twelve, they are
eligible for the Adventure Sailing class. The goals of
this class are:
- To pursue the practical
art of non-competitive sailing in different types of boats in all
sorts of wind conditions. Students will gain experience ranging
from sailing solo in Lasers or Sunfish to triple-handed sailing
in 19-foot Flying Scots on Pleasant Bay.
- To provide students with
the opportunity to sail to different destinations within range of
CYC to a) learn the rules of navigation through channel buoys, b)
practice anchoring techniques in current and tide, and c) to explore
the beauty of Pleasant Bay.
- To provide instruction
on self-rescue and water safety.
- To enjoy an opportunity
to sail a 30-foot Tartan on Nantucket Sound. This larger vessel,
combined with open water sailing, will be an exciting adventure
